Israeli games start-up Prime Sense Inc. has raised $20.4 million in its second funding round. Canaan Partners led the round, and was joined by the company's existing investors, Gemini Israel Funds, and Genesis Partners.
Prime Sense was founded by a team of entrepreneurs led by president Aviad Maizels, CTO Alexander Shpunt, Ophir Sharon, Tamir Berliner, and Dmitri Rais. The company is developing electronic chips that enable 3D imaging by entertainment systems, and it is targeting markets in East Asia, and electronic device manufacturers in the games and media sectors. The company's CEO is DSP Group Inc. (Nasdaq: DSPG) CEO Inon Bracha.
Bracha said, "Prime Sense was founded by an entrepreneur team composed of gamers who saw a need to improve the user experience The desire to make games more intuitive and easier was the principal motivation. We are targeting all sectors of the games market - consoles, or online, video communications, and personal coaching programs."
