Specialty foundry Tower Semiconductor Ltd. (Nasdaq: TSEM; TASE: TSEM) is on a roll. Subsidiary Jazz Semiconductor Inc. will supply Chinese fabless integrated circuit designer Southwest Integrated Circuit Design Co. Ltd. (SWID) 0.35-micron SiGe BiCMOS process (SBC35) and models for the development of satellite tuners for digital satellite receiver systems. The tuners will be used in set-top-boxes and mobile TVs. The company did not disclose the size of the deal or its terms.
Tower said a study by Strategy Analytics predicts that the combined digital are set-top-box and mobile TV market will grow by 23.5% a year from $334 million in 2009 to $630 million in 2012.
Jazz SVP and general manager RF and HPA Business Group Dr. Marco Racanelli said, "We are pleased to be working with a fast-paced company like SWID, helping them bring to market new RF products."
The deal with SWID is the latest of a string of deals with companies from the US, Israel, and South Korea that are employing Tower and Jazz processors in their products.
Tower's share closed at $1.29 on Nasdaq yesterday. The share rose 1.5% by early afternoon on the TASE today to NIS 4.87.
