TowerJazz Semiconductor Ltd. (Nasdaq: TSEM; TASE:TSEM) will produce a new mobile device processor for Atlanta-based fabless semiconductor company VT Silicon.
VT Silicon chose TowerJazz’s 0.18-micron SiGe process instead of a more expensive GaA process, allowing significantly lower cost and much higher integration.
TowerJazz’s 0.18-micron Silicon Radio Platform includes a SiGe transistor capable of operating up to 200GHz. These devices have noise and power performance competitive with GaAs, and offer as much as 40% lower die cost.
According to the companies, the market for 4G mobile devices is expected to grow from 4.3 million devices in 2009 to 50.1 million in 2012.
By early afternoon TowerJazz shares had risen 1.91% on the TASE to NIS 3.73. On Friday the share closed at $0.99 on Nasdaq, giving a market cap of $165.53 million.
