UK consultants find best Tamar gas terminal

Local residents, local and regional council leaders, and environmental organizations object to all six alternatives.

The best site out of six alternatives for the Tamar well natural gas collection terminal is at Dor South, says Petroleum Development Consultants Ltd. (PDC) managing director David Aron. The Ministry of National Infrastructures hired the UK consultancy firm to review the issue.

The opinion was rendered ahead of the decision by the National Planning and Building Commission on the location of the gas terminal. The other alternatives are the current terminal in Ashdod, Dor North, Caesarea Junction, adjacent to the waste treatment facility at Hadera, and the Ein Ayala quarry. Local residents, local and regional council leaders, and environmental organizations object to all of the alternatives.

"Globes" obtained a copy of the PDC opinion, which states that second best alternative is to connect the Tamar well to the existing Ashdod terminal, which receives natural gas from Yam Tethys' Mary B well. However, Aron says that this alternative is strategically less advantageous for Israel because it means having only one natural gas terminal.
