"Israel can do nothing but threaten and frighten the Lebanese," Lebanon Prime Minister Saad Hariri," according to Lebanese news sites. Hariri was responding to comments by Minister of National Infrastructures Uzi Landau in a "Bloomberg" interview that Israel would use force to protect its offshore natural gas fields.
Landau was responding to threats by Hizbullah against Israel exploiting the gas fields because it claims that they are in Lebanese territory.
Last week, some Lebanese MPs claimed that the gas finds offshore from Israel were in Lebanese territory. The Israeli partners in the Tamar field Delek Group Ltd. (TASE: DLEKG) and Isramco Ltd. (Nasdaq: ISRL; TASE: ISRA.L) strongly refute these claims.
Hariri also charged that Israel was targeting Lebanese stability, because Israel found it threatening. "Israel is ignoring the fact that, according to the maps, this field is included within Lebanon's territorial waters," he said.
