"No one will get a discount from us," Knesset Finance Committee chairman MK Moshe Gafni (United Torah Judaism) told "Globes" today. Last week, he declared war against concentration in the economy.
"Belying media reports, no one, and I mean no one, who is connected to concentration and control of the economy will get a discount from us," Gafni said.
In response to a question from "Globes" if that included "Israel Today" publisher Sheldon Adelson, Gafni said, "Yes, I mean him too. No one will get a discount from us, including Sheldon Adelson and his newspaper. I have nothing personal against them, but when we examine the issue of concentration in the economy in its entirety, I won't distinguish between any relevant party or give discounts to anyone."
Gafni said that this was an issue of principle, not a personal vendetta against any particular business or person. "In my opinion, the issue of concentration is a black cloud over Israeli democracy. If a small number of men can continue to do what they want, and the Israeli public cannot criticize them because these same tycoons also own the media, there is a great danger to democracy."
