"I do not believe that the gas companies acted illegally, or that there is any connection between them and the acts of Madoff, and even though I did not direct my remarks to any specific company or person, I apologize to your clients if my remarks hurt them," said Prof. Eytan Sheshinski, in a letter to Adv. Ram Caspi. "I reiterate, the remarks were made in jest, and were not intended to cause harm."
Earlier, Caspi, on behalf of the Association of Oil and Gas Exploration Companies in Israel, demanded that Sheshinki apologize for remarks made the evening before, or else face a lawsuit for libel. Sheshinski said, "During a lecture I gave at a UBS conference in Tel Aviv, I described the work of the committee that I chair and its interim conclusions."
