Altair in chipset deal with Telefonica O2 Germany

The semiconductor company could earn tens of millions of dollars from its products for the world's first 4G network.

Sources inform ''Globes'' that 4G LTE chipset developer Altair Semiconductor Ltd. will be one of the companies that will provide processors to Germany's third largest mobile carrier Telefonica O2 Germany GmbH & Co., which is about to launch the world's first 4G network. Other vendors will be China's Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd, Nokia Siemens Networks, and Germany's AVM GmbH.

This is an important achievement for Altair. If the 4G project succeeds, the company could earn tens of millions of dollars from its products. Altair, founded in 2005, was named one of Israel's most promising start-ups in 2009. The company launched its 4G chipset for LTE networks in early 2010.

Altair declined to comment on the report.
