The Knesset Economic Affairs Committee has reversed its decision of two weeks ago, and announced today that it will support the Sheshinski committee's final recommendations. Committee member MK Shelly Yacimovich (Labor) asked for the repeat vote.
The press release said, "The Economic Affairs Committee believes that the fiscal regime on existing gas reserves should be changed. The oil and gas companies are only partners in their production, the committee welcomes Sheshinski, thanks him, and favorably views the main recommendations of the final report. The committee condemns the assault on its members."
The Economics Committee also decided to hold a special discussion on the Tamar gas field.
The committee vote was 9:2. Committee chairman Carmel Shama (Likud), Dov Khenin (Hadash), Yacimovich, Menachem Eliezer Moses (United Torah Judaism), Yitzhak Vaknin (Shas), Shlomo (Neguse) Molla (Labor), Israel Hasson (Kadima) Robert Tiviaev (Kadima), and Yohanan Plesner (Kadima) voted in favor. Israel Beiteinu MKs Anastassia Michaeli and Hamad Amar voted against.
In the previous vote, only Yacimovich and Shama supported the Sheshinski recommendations.
