Egyptian Army troops have been deployed in El Arish in northern Sinai to protect the natural gas pipeline to Israel, "AP" reports. The deployment comes two weeks after a terrorist attack on a gas terminal in the area, disrupting the flow of gas to Israel and Jordan, on February 5, in the midst of the Egyptian revolution
"AP" quotes Egyptian security officials as saying that the deployment began on Tuesday.
"AP" says, "The northern Sinai is home to Bedouin tribes who resist government control. Officials say tribesmen have joined forces with Islamic militants, some of whom escaped from prisons during the uprising that led to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak's ouster last week."
Yesterday, East Mediterranean Gas Company (EMG) shareholder Ampal-American Israel Corporation (Nasdaq: AMPL; TASE:AMPL) said that EMG had notified it that the delivery of natural gas to Israel would resume at the end of the month.
