"Regrettably, in the past few days, we've seen a rising wave of rumors and assessments which purport to reflect the recommendations of the committee for socioeconomic change," said committee chairman Prof. Manuel Trajtenberg today in response to the publication of his interim recommendations.
"There are still no final recommendations or agreements of any kind. It seems to me as committee chairman that I am the only person authorized to say this. We're still in the final stages of high-paced professional work on an impossible timetable. I say here that, over the coming week, the committee will hold two marathon discussions to reach decisions. Only then will it be possible to talk about recommendations."
Trajtenberg declined to comment on reports about the committee's interim recommendations, but he promised that the final recommendations would include "tools in education for toddlers, an important chapter on housing and on the cost of living, and far-reaching change in the tax mix. This will all be done without breaching the budget framework."
Trajtenberg hinted that the reform will need years to implement. "I believe that the resources that will be channeled for this over the next five years will have the power to make a revolution."
Trajtenberg concluded with a plea for patience. "I ask you to wait patiently," he said.
