Sources inform ''Globes'' that Intel Israel Ltd. sent a letter to employees yesterday, stating that Maxine Fassberg will be reinstated as general manager of the company. Intel Corporation VP PC Client Group Mooly Eden, who was appointed general manager of Intel Israel in late January, will serve only as company president.
In January, Intel Corporation (Nasdaq: INTL) announced a round of appointments, which took Intel Israel, and Fassberg, by surprise. The statement said that Fassberg would be manager of Intel Israel's manufacturing operations and would be subordinate to Eden. The move was seen as essentially ousting Fassberg, although this may not have been Intel's intention.
Intel is due to issue a statement later today, which may shed light on the recent changes at the company.
The reorganization at Intel Israel is not the only unclear measures taken by Intel Corporation. Yesterday, Intel Israel was scheduled to hold its annual press conference, where it would disclose its performance, but the event was postponed to an unstated date in March, so that Eden could participate in it when he returns to Israel. This was the second time that the event was postponed, although the original intention was to hold it in mid-February without any connection to Eden's appointment.
Fassberg was appointed general manager of Intel Israel in 2007. She is responsible for Israel's largest high-tech business, which includes two fabs in Kiryat Gat and Jerusalem, and she handles a multibillion dollar budget. The fabs employ half of Intel Israel's 7,000-person workforce; the rest work at the company's R&D center in Haifa.
Intel Israel said in response, "Four weeks ago, we announced that VP Mooly Eden would return to Israel to serve as president and CEO of Intel Israel. To correct incorrect interpretations about this announcement, we wish to make it clear that Maxine Fassberg, a VP of Intel Corporation, will continue to serve as general manager of Intel Israel. She will be responsible for all of the manufacturing operations in Israel and she will continue to handle relations with the Israeli government on all matters related to Intel's future investments in Israel.
"Mooly will return to Israel to the position of president of Intel Israel. Mooly will lead Intel Israel's strategy and operations, and will work with Maxine and the other managers of Intel Israel to define their future duties and operations. We are certain that Mooly and Maxine's experience and track records will result in growth and new opportunities for Intel Corporation and Intel Israel."
