Waze Ltd. today launched its new 3.5 version of its crowd-sourcing navigation app, which in addition to providing information about traffic congestion, police, accidents, and prices at gas stations, lets friends know where you are. The new version is available for both iPhones and Android devices.
The new service allows users to let friends know their location, how to get there, and lets users see the friend's route and how long it will take to arrive. If a group of friends are meeting at a restaurant, it is possible to see who has arrived and who is en route.
"We may be alone in the car, but most of the time that's because we're going to work, home, or to meet a friend," says Waze VP product and marketing Yael Elish. "It's only natural to be updated about the location and time of the people we're going to meet. The new version of Waze takes users out of the darkness."
Waze has reached 28 million registered users.
