The aging airliners will be replaced with Boeing 737-900 ER planes in 2013.
El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. (TASE: ELAL) today announced that it is taking its Boeing 757 airliners out of service.
El Al will receive the first two of six Boeing 737-900 ER (extended range) airliners by the end of 2013. These planes will replace the Boeing 757s.
El Al CEO Elyezer Shkedy, "This is part of El Al's strategy to lower the age of its fleet and reduce the number of models. We therefore decided to take out of service old Boeing 757 and 767-200 planes. We are discussing with Boeing and Airbus various options for renewing our fleet of wide-bodied airliners."
