The Ministry of Defense and US Missile Defense Agency today carried out a first successful flight test of Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd's (IAI) (TASE: ARSP.B1) new missile, the Arrow 3. The test was conducted at a test base in central Israel.
The Arrow 3 is designed to intercept long-range ballistic missiles in space, while they are still far from Israel. According to the missile's development plan, the Arrow 3 will provide a response to missiles with non-conventional warheads.
The Ministry of Defense said, "The test examined, for the first time, the capabilities and performance of the i new system, which is considered an innovative, revolutionary system in the world's family of interceptor missiles. These capabilities will allow the Arrow's current systems to deal more effectively with future threats to Israel."
Development of the Arrow will continue in the years ahead. The program is managed by the Ministry of Defense's Homa Administration through the Development of Weapons and Technological Infrastructure. IAI's MLM Division is the Arrow 3 chief contractor, in collaboration with The Boeing Company (NYSE: BA).
