Israeli content recommendations company Outbrain Inc. has acquired Visual Revenue Inc., its third acquisition in two years. The companies did not disclose the size of the deal Visual Revenue provides editors with real-time recommendations to optimize the content on their homepages, test headlines, and so forth, while preserving the correspondents' own voice.
Visual Revenue's solution uses algorithms to help experienced website editors decide which reports are worth publishing, where on the homepage, and for how long. The acquisition will enable Outbrain to expand its services and offer a comprehensive solution for optimizing webpages.
Outbrain was founded by CEO Yaron Galai and CTO Ori Lahav in 2006, and Visual Revenue was founded in New York City by CEO Dennis Mortensen and CTO Charlie Holbech in 2011.
Outbrain said, "As fans of great journalism, we strongly believe in the important role the editor plays in the newsroom and we have worked hard to provide editorial tools and insights to help them do their jobs better. We continue to look for ways to help empower editorial decisions with actionable insights using data and analytics."
Outbrain SVP strategy Gilad de Vries added, "We are excited to unite forces with the leading player in the field of editorial decision-making, and together become the platform that enables the optimization of all pages within a website from content pages, through video and mobile, to homepages."
Outbrain's previous acquisition, in December 2012, was digital content storage and management solutions developer Scribit.
Outbrain has raised $64 million to date, mostly from Carmel Ventures, GlenRock Israel, and Lightspeed Ventures. Its content recommendations solution has been installed by "Newsweek", "The Chicago Tribune", and "USA Today", as well as leading Israeli content sites.
