Cloud application replication company CloudEndure has raised $5.2 million in a financing round led by Magma Venture Partners and including angel investors led by Zohar Gilon. The company is developing a first-ever service to ensure availability of web applications in the cloud through continuous replication of the application. CloudEndure will use the proceeds to hire new development staff and launch the service.
Based in Ramat Gan, the company was founded in 2012 by four serial high tech entrepreneurs - CEO Ofer Gadish, Leonid Feinberg and Ofir Ehrlich, graduates of the IDF Intelligence Corps. technology unit, and COO Gil Shai. The four founded AcceloWeb four years ago, which was acquired by Limelight Networks (Nasdaq: LLNW) in 2011 for tens of millions of dollars.
Gadish said, "Everybody who has a web application (for example a website) in the cloud knows how difficult it is to ensure that the application will remain available under all conditions. Every network issue, cloud issue, or even application issue, is immediately felt by the end user. The technology that we have developed allows all cloud application owners, easily, at a reasonable price, and without prior knowledge, to protect their application from down time regardless of the problem source."
CloudEndure's service tracks in real-time every change in a customer's servers, copies those changes to another cloud, and when an application ceases to respond, regardless of the reason for the malfunction, it sets up a perfect copy of the latest version of the application in an alternative cloud. The end user does not feel that the application has malfunctioned, and developers have time to find the reason for the fault and repair it.
Magma founder and managing partner Modi Rosen said, "In effect, in contrast to the physical world, there is no solution today for business continuity designed for web applications in the cloud that can continually replicate them to allow availability at the time of a malfunction. As a result of the rapid increase in cloud technology use, we see huge demand for solutions of this kind in order to get over problems of availability, which are becoming more and more common."
