The independent power producer was hooked up to the grid to help IEC meet the heavy summer electricity demand.
Independent power producer Dorad Energy Ltd. hooked up its power station to the national grid on Friday, within 24 hours of obtaining its permit. The 840-megawatt power station will begin full production by the end of the year.
The hook-up to the grid followed efforts by Dorad and Israel Electric Corporation (IEC) (TASE: ELEC.B22) to get the power station on line to meet the heavy summer electricity demand and avoid a shortage. Dorad was linked to the power line connecting IEC's Rothenberg and Gan Soreq power stations.
IEC CEO Eli Glickman said, "IEC is ready for the entry of independent power producers and to hook them up to the grid, to be ready for the summer in order to meet demand and provide quality service to customers."
