The Ministry of Housing and Construction and the Israel Land Authority today announced that they will shortly publish tenders for land zoned for the construction of 1,730 housing units beyond the Green Line in Jerusalem and in Judea and Samaria. "Under the policy for the effective marketing of land to increase the housing supply and ease the housing shortage, the Ministry of Housing and the Israel Land Authority today announced the marketing of tenders," said the ministry.
Land will be sold for the construction of 698 apartments in Jerusalem: 387 apartments in Ramat Shlomo (the Shuafat Ridge) and 311 apartments in Gilo. In addition, tenders for which there were previously no bids will be republished for land for 250 apartments in Gilo and 130 assisted living units in Homat Shmuel (Har Homa).
Tenders will also be published for land zoned for 284 apartments in Elkana, 196 apartments in Karnei Shomron, 114 apartments in Maaleh Adumum, 102 apartmetns in Givat Zeev, 238 apartments in Betar Illit, 80 apartments in Geva Benyamin, and 18 apartments in Ariel. Altogether tenders will be published for land for 1,032 apartments in Judea and Samaria.
Minister of Housing and Construction Uri Ariel said, "We are pursuing our policy of the effective marketing of land for construction nationwide. These sales have boosted housing starts to an annualized rate of 43,000, higher than the annual demand for homes. However, to bring about real change in home prices, in the coming months, we intend to move ahead on plans to further boost housing starts and the effective marketing of land nationwide in 2014."
