The halt in the night flight comes two months after the airline cancelled its daytime flights to the resort due to safety concerns.
El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. (TASE: ELAL) today announced that it will halt all flights to Eilat in two weeks. The announcement comes two months after the airline cancelled its daytime flights to the resort. It made the decision after being notified by the Israel Civil Aviation Authority that it will change the landing path to Eilat Airport for night flights on November 18.
In September, El Al cancelled its daytime flights to Eilat after the Civil Aviation Authority changed the landing path to Eilat Airport, a change that El Al claimed was dangerous. The Civil Aviation Authority gave El Al a two-week extension to use the old flight path, until conclusions were drawn about the new flight path, and then reimposed it.
In August, El Al made three daily flights between Ben Gurion Airport and Eilat. Its competition against Arkia Airlines Ltd. and Israir Airlines and Tourism Ltd. resulted in lower fares on the route.
