The plan for 1,000 dormitories in the periphery and 4,000 in high-demand areas will cost NIS 160 million.
Minister of Finance Yair Lapid today announced his plan for the construction of 5,000 student dormitories nationwide at a cost of NIS 160 million. He made the announcement on the National Union of Israeli Students' "Main Stage" program.
"You are my purpose. That is why I am here," said Lapid. "That is why at a time of cuts across the Israeli economy, I came here today to announce that, by 2016, we will build 5,000 more student dormitories. 1,000 dormitories will be built in the periphery and 4,000 will be built in high-demand areas. I know that there were such promises in the past, which did not materialize. That is why we have not come with empty declarations, but with a practical and orderly plan that has been closed with all the implementation authorities, including student unions."
