Bezeq Israeli Telecommunication Co. Ltd. (TASE: BEZQ) today announced the launching of a technology incubator for Internet of Things (IoT) developers, in cooperation with Hisense, Tel Aviv University, and the Vertical Engine accelerator. The company reported that it would "conduct jointly with Hisense an intensive three-month program for startups dealing in ventures in smart devices and the Internet of Things."
The program will provide the best teams with an opportunity to work with the best minds in the industry and universities in Israel, in addition to access to advanced technologies and experts from Bezeq and Hisense, who will help the teams taking part bring the products they are developing to fruition.
Bezeq regards the smart home sector as strategically important, and as an area that will accelerate traffic on its network, enhance customer loyalty, and provide customers with added value by making Bezeq's network a smart one.
Operators throughout the world are pondering the same questions - how to increase entries on the one hand, and how to reduce churn on the other. For Bezeq, the way to handle these questions is through regular upgrading of speed and added value services, such as Bezeq's cloud computing services, which are currently also provided to Pelephone Communications Ltd. customers; Pelephone's Musix services, now also provided to Bezeq's Internet customers as part of bargains; etc.
Bezeq recently announced its entry into the smart home field, and launched a smart home camera with a number of features, including a camera that can be used to view what is a happening at home on a smartphone, sensors that detect movement, and smoke sensors.
As part of the launch, Bezeq is focusing on activity with IKEA Netanya, where it has constructed a building in which its smart home products can be viewed, in cooperation with startups in the field.
