On Tuesday, Jerusalem District Court Judge David Mintz dismissed a petition by Hadassah Women's Zionist Organization of America to release NIS 48.2 million from donations to Hadassah Medical Center to pay suppliers. The judge ruled in favor of the hospital's nurses workers committee and administration and support staff workers committee.
The Hadassah Organization asked the court to release NIS 14.1 million to pay suppliers involved in the construction of the new hospital building, and NIS 34.1 million to the hospital's research foundations.
Hadassah Hospital is operating under a stay of proceedings. Its research foundations receive NIS 20-25 million a year, mostly from the Hadassah Organization. Some members of the Hadassah Organization opposed the petition.
Hadassah Hospital's nurses and administration and support staff's unions also objected to the withdrawal on the grounds that the hospital's claims about the money it possessed for the new hospitalization building and the research foundations were unclear. The unions cited the hospital's claim in the proceedings for the stay of proceedings that, "At the date of the filing of this motion, the research foundation is being liquidated." The unions added it was unclear why millions of shekels which the hospital claimed were intended for the research foundation were not used for the petition for the stay of proceedings. They also said that the research foundation was unrelated to proper administration.
The unions argued that the new hospitalization building was an integral part of Hadassah Hospital's assets, and that the research foundation was an NPO outside the hospital's full control.
