The estimated reserves in Egypt's Zohr field have now not been halved, according to the website "Egypt Oil & Gas." Earlier this week, the news site reported that the estimated reserves in the gas field discovered last August by the Italian energy company Eni, have been almost halved from 30 TCF to 16 TCF.
However, "Egypt Oil & Gas" has now published a correction saying, "It is important to note that the original version of this news piece featured an incorrect estimate."
The news site quotes Egyptian General Petroleum Corp. (EGPC) chairman Mohamed Al Masry as estimating that there is between 23 and 26 TCF of gas in Zohr. Al Masry noted that drilling is expected to start at the beginning of 2017.
EGPC sources say that Egypt's current natural gas reserves total 57.04 TCF.
