Sources inform ''Globes'' that taxi hailing app GetTaxi has raised its monthly fee from drivers by 350%, from March 1, for its driver's tablet, which is critical for their work. The fee will rise from NIS 50 to NIS 225 per month, which will reportedly boost the company's monthly revenue by NIS 500,000.
The fee hike has infuriated tax drivers, but GetTaxi is unperturbed, saying that the number of drives has increased by 10% since it announced the hike. It also says that it is unaware of any initiative by the drivers to quit the company after the fee hike comes into effect.
"The monthly order fee that GetTaxi charges its drivers includes the fee for the driver's tablet and many other services is among the lowest in the taxi sector," said GetTaxi in response. "The company provides its drivers with a smart, fair, professional, and start-of-the-art platform for success in Israel and around the world, which is reflected in the number of the drivers' daily rides and monthly income.
"GetTaxi, with the help of its Israeli development center, unceasingly upgrades and develops the driver's tablet, in order to keep it as the smartest and most efficient tool on the road. Since the announcement of the fee hike for the tablet, the company has increased the number of drivers by a further 10%. GetTaxi is pursuing its vision of making taxis the leader in transportation by using advanced technology and a fleet of skilled drivers."
