The Golan Telecom Ltd. market campaign in the haredi (ultra-orthodox) community put the carrier at the top of the subscriber recruitment rankings in May. It recruited 14,500 net new subscribers in May, beating the 10,200 net new subscribers recruited by Hot Mobile Ltd.
Both carriers recruited about the same number of subscribers, but Hot Mobile had a higher churn rate, with the result that Golan Telecom consolidated its position as the biggest net recruiter in the market.
Among the three veteran carriers, Cellcom Israel Ltd. (NYSE:CEL; TASE:CEL) had the lowest churn rate, while Partner Communications Ltd. (Nasdaq: PTNR; TASE: PTNR) had the highest churn rate, with Pelephone Communications Ltd. in the middle. The three carriers' churn rate continues unabated. If it continues, this will worry the carriers.
Among the mobile virtual network operators (MVNO), the collapse of YouPhone continued in May. It recruited about the same number of subscribers as Rami Levy Communications Ltd., but YouPhone's loss of over 4,000 subscribers resulted in a net loss of 1,500 subscribers, while Rami Levy gained 400 net new subscribers.
