A new air defense cooperation agreement has been signed by Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. (IAI) (TASE: ARSP.B1) and Czech radar company Retia. The agreement was signed yesterday in Prague during Israel President Reuven Rivlin's visit to the Czech Republic. Under the agreement IAI and Retia will jointly develop technologies.
The agreement also includes the possibility of joint production of radar for the Iron Dome missile interception system. IAI subsidiary Elta Systems developed and manufactures the MMR radar system for Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd..
Following the agreement, IAI sources said that future procurement by the Czech Republic of the advanced radar system used in Iron Dome is possible. This system facilitates significant air defense functions, including identifying the source of rocket fire and fire control.
Last July, it was reported that the Canadian Ministry of Defense would purchase the Iron Dome radar system for $190 million, after IAI and Canadian company Rheinmetall Defence won a tender published by the Canadian Ministry of Defense. Canada plans to procure about 10 MMR radar system in the coming years, some of which will be manufactured in Canada. Radar systems of this type have also been sold in the past to four other countries around the world.
