The IDF has taken delivery of its ninth Iron Dome battery for intercepting incoming rockets. This is the third new system provided during Operation Protective Edge by Israel's defense manufacturers.
Bringing forward the timetable for supplying the new Iron Dome systems was orchestrated by the Defense Ministry's Administration for the Center for Arms Infrastructures and Technologies while Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. served as the lead contractor with Israel Aerospace Industries Ltd. (IAI) (TASE: ARSP.B1) unit ELTA Electronic Systems and Imprest as subcontractors.
Defense Ministry sources said that companies worked around the clock over the past week to complete the systems and enable the IDF to maximize its protection of Israeli citizens.
So far the Iron Dome systems have intercepted 193 Hamas rockets targeting Israeli civilian centers and it has a 90% success rate.
A tenth Iron Dome system will be delivered in the first quarter of 2015.
