The sanctions surrounding the Israel Postal Company's reform dispute are becoming more far-reaching. As from today, postal company employees will stop handling incoming mail from overseas. They will continue not to handle registered letters and collect government, police and local authority fines or provide government offices with postal services. Vehicle ownership transfers are also not being processed as part of the sanctions.
The Histadrut General Federation of Labor is also escalating its measures to oppose the Postal Company reform. As from this morning Haifa and Ashdod Port customs workers will stop handling international parcels in solidarity with Israel Postal Company workers. There will also be delays in releasing goods and raw materials.
Israel Employment Office workers are also striking and offices will be closed today and phones will not be answered.
The Histadrut called a work dispute several weeks ago in protest at the planned Israel Postal Company reform and proposed structural changes, which they claim will see 1,500 employees fired and replaced by workers on temporary contracts.
The Histadrut said, 'The Histadrut protests the contract workers phenomenon and the "revolving door" the state is adopting by perpetuating harmful business structures. In solidarity with the postal workers crisis, the striking workers are opposing business formats that aim to harm workers and erode their status. "
