Kahlon: Everyone knows there won't be an Eilat casino

Finance Minister Moshe Kahlon does not expect a tourist complex based on casinos to be built on Eilat's vacated airport.

The public discourse about establishing a casino in Eilat is unnecessary and premature, Minister of Finance Moshe Kahlon said today. In his appearance on the Channel 2 morning program, Kahlon avoided saying whether he opposed a casino by saying that the subject required a serious public debate. "It's true that the Eilat Airport is being vacated, and they want to bring something there, but they could also bring other things there. Two weeks ago, people were talking about casinos everywhere you looked on television, and everyone knows that there won't be a casino, but they were talking about it. It was obviously just a ridiculous rumor, because there won't be a casino."

The Ministry of Finance believes that now that Accountant General Michal Abadi-Boiangiu's term has been extended, Kahlon is likely to also extend the term of Director of Wages Kobi Amsalem. Amsalem's term is due to expire in June, and he has already announced his wish to resign at that time. The Ministry of Finance nevertheless believes that he will change his mind if Kahlon asks him to stay in his job.

Sources close to Kahlon said he had not yet spoken with Amsalem, but that he would give positive consideration to extending his term.
