The Histadrut chief flattered the finance minister during a ceremony marking the direct employment of 300 former contract cleaners at Assaf Harofeh Hospital.

Moshe Kahlon is Israel's most social finance minister ever, said Histadrut (General Federation of Labor in Israel) chairman Avi Nissenkorn today. Both Nissenkorn and Kahlon participated in a ceremony held today at Assaf Harofeh Hospital to mark the direct employment (as hospital employees) of 300 cleaning personnel, formerly employed as contract workers.

During the ceremony, Nissenkorn said, "Moshe Kahlon is the most social minister of finance Israel has ever had. His agenda is topped by social activism, narrowing gaps and seeing the individual and acknowledging his importance. He does not cripple productivity but only enhances it. I am happy to have found a partner for the road."

Kahlon said, "A normal society cannot accept a situation in which one employee receives a holiday gift and another does not. There is no place for workers who are worth more and workers who are worth less, this injustice should pass from the world. When we started the effort to transfer contract workers to direct employment, we did not know how complex this process was going to be. Had the Histadrut chairman, minister of health and the hospital's director not joined forces, this would not have happened. Note how much power is required to bring justice…this is nothing more than a matter of priorities. We have not been printing more money, but have simply decided to pass on money from strong groups who enjoyed it to weak groups."

The employment of cleaning personnel in Assaf Harofeh is part of the implementation of an agreement to limit contract worker employment signed in July 2015 between Histadrut Chairman Nissenkorn and Minister of Finance Kahlon. Assaf Harofeh is the first medical center chosen to lead this integration process, in order to later implement the model in other hospitals.

Nissenkorn said, "Hundreds of workers are becoming public employees, with a public employee tag, with pride in their eyes, under the Histadrut and the workers committee. The integration of cleaning personnel, who are doing crucial work, is important and symbolic, and the ceremony today is only the beginning of the way and we are committed to integrating all cleaning personnel in government and municipal hospitals, and the same will also take place in Clalit Health Services."
