On Friday morning at 6 am Ma'ariv bridge in Tel Aviv will be demolished by a controlled explosion, Israel Police has announced. The operation will take place as part of the Tel Aviv light rail construction work.
Minister of Transport Yisrael Katz will be present and will press the button that causes the explosion. Final approval is needed from the Ministry of the Economy because of the large amounts of explosives required to carry out the operation.
From this afternoon at 4 pm buses will not be allowed on the section of Begin Road between Hahashmonaim and the railway station as the explosive charges are prepared.
On the location of Ma'ariv Bridge the Carlebach three-level underground station will be built for the Red Line, Green Line and a ticket office. The Red Line will link Bat yam and Jaffa via Tel Aviv to Bnei Brak and Petah Tikva. The Green Line will connect Rishon Lezion and Holon via Tel Aviv with the north of the city and Ramat Hahayil.
Special areas will be marked out in which the public and media can watch the bridge exploding on Friday morning.
