The 16-screen cinema complex near the old train station will be open on Friday nights and Saturdays.

The Yes Planet theater chain, with the cooperation of the Gabriel Sherover Foundation, opened its new NIS 200 million entertainment complex in Jerusalem today.

The massive 28,500 sq. m. compound is located on a busy thoroughfare that connects between the Jaffa Gate and the Sherover Promenade in East Talpiot, and is within walking distance from the refurbished train station complex, the cinematheque, and the Khan Theater.

The new six-story compound has a sixteen-screen cinema, including two multi-purpose halls which can be used for stage shows. The complex includes exhibition space for temporary exhibits and some 2,000 sq. m. for coffee shops, restaurants, and commercial activity.

A three-story garage with 350 parking spots will be available for visitors.

Unlike rivaling center Cinema City, which sits at the western entrance to the capital, the Yes Planet will operate on the Jewish holy day of Shabbat, which begins Friday evening and ends early Saturday night, because it was built on private property meaning the municipality cannot veto the decision.

The complex's launch will be accompanied by a David Gerstein exhibition called Coexistence, in which the artists presents a variety of works expressing the feelings and experiences reflecting the ever-present conflict in the Jerusalem environment.

"The new compound will offer the newest and most advanced in the world when it comes to the cinematic experience. It is intended to provide an answer to the demand of Jerusalemites and the many visitors from both Israel and abroad for an entertainment center that is accessible and open on all days of the week," said Cineworld CEO Mooky Greidinger, owners of the Israeli chains Yes Planet and Rav-Hen.

Sherover Foundation chief Uzi Wexler then stressed that the choice of Yes Planet as a strategic partner for the cultural initiative was natural given the foundation's value of promoting cultural activities.
