You Tube has been blocked by the Syrian government for some time.
The Syrian government has reportedly blocked Facebook after the company's management allowed residents of the Golan Heights to mark their country of abode as Israel. Until recently Golan surfers were compelled to enter Syria as their country of residence on their Facebook page. But after repeated protests Facebook's management relented and added Israel to the options for Golan residents.
However, the Arabic newspaper "Al Kuds Al Arabi" reports that in reprisal the Syrian government has taken action. Surfers in Syria are now blocked from entering Facebook, although many surfers know how to break through the blocks. Some say that the Syrian government was simply looking for a pretext to block Facebook because it fears the influence of the social networking site. You Tube has been officially blocked for some time.
