RedBeacon, which allows consumers who are seeking services to find and interact with local businesses and professionals, won first prize in the prestigious start-up competition of the technological blog TechCrunch. RedBeacon was found by three former Google employees - the Israeli entrepreneur Yaron Binur, Ethan Anderson, and Aaron Lee. While on stage the presenters ordered cakes with the service and before the presentation was over the cakes were delivered to the hall.
Three other Israeli or Israel-connected companies also finished in the top six and scooped the prizes from a list of 1,000 carefully selected start-ups. Trollim, based in Ra'anana is developing a skill evaluation and comparison platform assessing the coding level, performance and skill set of programmers worldwide. threadsy is developing the world’s first integrated communication client, combining email, Facebook, Twitter, instant messaging etc. threadsy was set up by Rob Goldman and the Israeli Udi Nir.
Another prize winner with an Israeli connection was AnyClip, which has developed search and data extraction technologies for movies and videos. The company was set up by Israeli Aaron Cohen, Nate Westheimer, Michael Schulhof and Jerusalem Venture Partners founder Erel Margalit. AnyClip also has a development center in Israel.
Last year six Israeli start-ups made presentations on the stage at the TechCrunch prize ceremony.
